Bad controversy, but good conversation?

Qatar world cup has done many controversial things, but is all the buzz and conversation good for awareness?

I believe that if you're prejudiced against 3 women you're being sexist to all women. I think it's the same for everything, if you're prejudiced against 4 trans people then you're being transphobic to all trans people, if you're being prejudiced against 5 men, it's offensive to all men. So when a issue of people being sexist or homophobic in a certain culture or country comes up, in my opinion it would effect people who are not part of that belief system.

One Love armband

The global conversation that's being had right now about Qatar and the World Cup is a good example of this. The basics of this discussion is that people are questioning if Qatar is ‘worthy’ of being the host of the world cup because of its morals and the culture within the country.

An example of bad morals is the stadiums that for the last 12 years they have been building, but that's not the issue, it's that for all 7 of these buildings, they have been paying immigrants below minimum wage and taking advantage of their desperation for work all whilst trying to cover up the thousands of deaths caused by the bad working conditions. That, I think, is easy for people to agree is wrong, no matter what culture, or belief system you follow; taking advantage of a person is never ok.

But an example of culture is where they stand on LGBTQIA+ rights. That’s hurting millions of people that are part of the queer comunity, and yes, dont get me wrong you shouldnt be able to change peoples culture because its their right to believe what they want, but is there a line that should be drawn when it is putting people is prison because of who they love, or what gender they are?

On the other hand how has any country got the right to judge any other because, if England wants Qatar to apologise for their morals, as FIFA President Infantino put it, shouldn't the West be apologising for the last 3000 years?

No country hasn't done something immoral or wrong, no country hasn't taken advantage of their power or hasn't treated a group of people badly because of a number of things that should make no difference to them, so why do we think we can stand high and mighty and tell other countries what's wrong with them?

A same sex couple should be able to travel to Qatar to see the world cup and feel safe sharing a hotel room, i also believe that you should be able to wear a top with the word love on it or a hat that is colourful. Whereas by contrast the football captains wearing rainbow One Love bands is something that has had very split views, some people think its good their fighting for what is right to them, but others are saying that it’s disrespectful to Qatar's culture and beliefs.

There are alot of bad things about this world cup in Qatar but I think one thing we've got out of it is that we are talking about these issues that people usually shy away from.
